Looking after your new bed:
Read the advice below and by following these simple steps to caring for your new bed
you can relax knowing that that it will provide support and comfort for many years to come.
First things first:
|
Be warned, placing a brand new mattress on your old bed base can be a false economy.
If you have a platform top or hard-top divan base this will make a soft mattress feel firm and an already firm mattress feel firmer.
Take head of the manufacturer's care instructions. They know the materials and system better than anyone and how best to care for it.
Carefully remove all packaging and be careful not to use a sharp knife or tools that could tear the material.
It can take a little while to get used to your new bed, but don't worry, it's just your body adjusting to a different level of support and comfort than it has been used to.
Mattress care:
|
Air your new mattress regularly.
Use a mattress protector to protect your mattress from stains and smells.
Don't stand or jump on your mattress. It can break down the support system of the mattress and the supporting base causing one or both to collapse.
Unless you have a "no-turn" mattress, turn your mattress every two weeks for the first six months and every month after that. Make sure you turn the mattress over side to side as well as top to toe.
Turning a double mattress is a 2 person job. Use the mattress handles and don't strain your back.
Never ever fold your mattress in half, this can cause severe damage to the support system rendering your mattress useless.
|
Bed base and storage care:
Check bolts, screws, legs and castors regularly to make sure they haven't come loose.
If you have storage drawers, only use them to carry lightweight items such as pillows, duvets, clothing etc. Heavy items such as books can cause the bottom of the drawers
to collapse or distort over time making them more difficult to operate.
